what is the difference PASSIVE AND ACTIVE TRANSPORT?
The main difference is that passive transport does not require energy to get its job done, while active transport does. Active transportation is when molecules move across membrane from a region of low concentration to a region of high concentration. In passive transport, the molecules move with the concentration gradient from high to low concentration.
Passive transport is a movement of biochemicals and other atomic or molecular substances across cell membranes without need of energy input. Unlike active transport, it does not require an input of cellular energy. Simple diffusion is the process whereby a substance passes through a membrane without the aid of an intermediary such as a integral membrane protein. The force that drives the substance from one side of the membrane to the other is the force of diffusion. Transport of substances across a biological membrane from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration by means of a carrier molecule. Since the substances move along the direction of their concentration gradients, energy is not required.

Active Transport is the movement of ions or molecules across a cell membrane into a region of higher concentration, assisted by enzymes and requiring energy. Primary active transport directly uses a source of chemical energy (ATP) to move molecules across a membrane against their gradient. Secondary active transport (cotransport), on the other hand, uses an electrochemical gradient, generated by active transport, as an energy source to move molecules against their gradient, and thus does not directly require a chemical source of energy such as ATP.
